Jedi Outcast "In-Depth Report" - Brian @ 10:57 PM
Games Radar UK has posted an article on JK2 termed an "In-Depth Report." Apparently you can find the full version in the December issue of PC Gamer UK, but the online version still has some good information.
Once you've got hold of your saber you should never absolutely need to use one of those clunky shooter things - the sword of light is all you need. But you start off with Katarn's skills in something of a state of disrepair. He's not well-loved by the majority of Jedi due to his mastery of dark powers. As the game progresses he has to relearn his Force talents and secure himself a lightsaber. Watching the default third-person view of lightsaber combat (first-person being the default for normal handguns), it quickly becomes obvious that the dynamic is already quite advanced. Tosti talked us through it: "Generally enemies are fearful when I'm using my lightsaber. When I come in with normal weapons they'll be a little more bold. Also, when they retreat, they'll move into defensible positions so, if there's an officer along with the Stormtroopers, and you take him out, the other guys are likely to flee because the chain of command has effectively been broken."

Holiday Logo Contest 2001 - blujay @ 4:48 AM
I am pleased to announce The Massassi Temple's third annual Holiday Logo Contest! The rules are the same as they've always been, but be sure to read them again; it's been a whole year since you last read them.

At the moment I'm waiting on ReconGamer to make a slight change on the server to enable me to start posting the logos, but in the meantime you can start making them and sending them in. All the ones accepted this year will be rotated on the front page, along with the best logos from the last two years.

So put on your editing hat (preferably a Santa hat) and start making up your logos! If they're anywhere near as good as the ones we got the last two years, I'm sure they'll be great!

Run around in the 2 levels, The Paint Ball bash arena, mostly lighted, and the dark arena, where your only way you can see your enemies is to light up the surroundings with your saber or try your wit with a blaster, to guide yourself in the complete blackness. Find a comfy spot and unload on someone as they pass you in the blackness. Too lazy for that, well then play the lit up arena, and battle your opponents out in the safety of light. Remember to leave the cap on your weapon while refueling.. or get a timeout. Actually just unload on the stupid refs for warning you about it in this world!

Description: The level is a small NF Saber level but can be used for FF sabers. The main attraction is a broken bridge over a fast flowing Water fall. Beware the fall ;). After the bridge you come to a old imperial bunker type thingy and this is small. Not alot of objects because it has been cleared out by the Imps or so we will say ;). And behind all of this there is a series of caves and passages mainly empty apart from the odd debry or two. I call them the Outskirts.

It's come time for me to relinquish ownership of Massassi and move on to other things. It's been almost four years since I originally put the site up. I've had an amazing time, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I have compiled a little farewell message that attempts to thank everyone that has helped out over the past four years. Without a doubt, some people have been left off. Please understand that this wasn't intentional, it's just very difficult to remember every single person that's ever helped out over the course of 4 years, especially when I've only met you over the internet. What's going to happen to Massassi? First of all, it's not closing. For more info, please read my farewell message.

Inevitably, there will be some changes around here. I encourage everyone to show the new ownwership the same courtesy you've shown me. I also encourage people with the desire to help out to get to know the new owners and lend a hand whenever you can. One thing Massassi has always had is a strong community, and I don't expect that to change.

For those of you who don't know what it is, or can't remember, it's a trilogy-parody of Star Wars, using regular posters from the Massassi.net and CommandChamber.net forums in the roles of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and so-on. Personally, I think it's hilarious, and I thought I'd re-post the links for people who missed them the first time around. Earlier today CG Online published the first in a series of articles by Raven's Kenn Hoekstra on how to get your foot in the game industry door. Here's a snippet:
I can't tell you how many times this question has crossed my desk in the five years I've been at Raven Software. It's a good question, but how do you answer it? Every game developer has a different story, and I have yet to find two that are exactly alike. About the only thing that ties them all together is an overwhelming desire to play and make games and a certain degree of good old-fashioned luck.
This was a hot topic on our message board recently, so I'm sure a lot of you will get some use out of Kenn's write-up. Many thanks to Brian and Blue's News for the heads-up on the story.

Now that I think of it, I could have titled this "Etc." for nostalgia's sake, but this will do. As you may have noticed, there haven't been any holiday logos posted, and if you've e-mailed me, I haven't replied. Well, I'm in the process of setting up a new computer, and my old one is partially disassembled. What with being sold the wrong video card, the network card's drivers being uninstallable and partially non-existant, and not having room to run both at the same time, I haven't been able to do anything online since Tuesday. I should be able to put in a working network card today, so in the next couple of days I will be catching up on e-mail and posting the logos that have come in. So keep those logos coming in, and thanks for your patience and hard work!

Description: Area 21 is a multi-area multiplayer level revolving around a single room, which is the respawn point of all players. Around the walls are 20 numbered portals transporting players to different combat areas. Each area has a different theme, style, and location. There is open and closed combat areas for both sabers and guns, and small and large areas that can be played with as little as two players but are big enough for many more. There are night and day locations, town, city, sewer, subway, canyon, warehouse, ice planet and many more. There are many secrets to find as well as two hidden combat areas.

In less than a day, both teams are nearly wiped out. This level is best played Stormtrooper vs. Grave Tusken to give it a better feel to the level.

I have made a new version 1.0.8 that now has the feature to connect to the internet to download updates and patches. You can then use those patches from my site in conjunction with TSM...   • bug fix: can now read 16-bit mats from a .gob container.
  • bug fix: Multi-Celled Texture's didn't save correctly.

LucasArts has updated the official Jedi Knight II FAQ with four new questions and subsequent answers (clicking the linked word will take you to that question/answer):
4.01 What kind of multiplayer server options will Jedi Outcast have?
3.08 Will Jedi Outcast have an auto-map feature like the original Jedi Knight?
3.07 Do you need to activate blocking or learn a specific skill in order to block attacks?

Level System Bans - blujay @ 6:05 AM
Several of you have e-mailed us about being banned from downloading levels. Unfortunately, due to the 25,000+ downloads of Warped Temple by its author in attempts to bloat the level's download count, I have had to turn on the code that bans from level downloads. I will be replying to you all individually and will try to fix it so you can download again; I have no desire to ban innocent people. But the abuse was severe, and I had no other choice. Bandwidth costs enough already, and tens of thousands of malicious downloads cannot be allowed.

However, I believe I can unban the innocent ones without unbanning the evildoer, just give me a little time. Thanks for your patience.

Description: This is a level to use with the Coolboarders mod. Its set in an abandoned Industial Plant. It has huge ramps and jumps. It has force and health powerups for light and darkside. It also has multiple ways to the end, and if you make it to the end alive theres a warp to get back to the beginning quickly. Using force powers is a must in this level because you'll need the speed to make it off of some jumps. Theres also a Lodge at the end of the run. I also made the gravity less so that you can get more air.
