This level is outstandingly superb! The architecture and texturing of the level was simply, but the custome 3DO's brought it all together. And I'm not even going to begin to start with the cogging. Well, okay just a little.

At the first use of the cameras, when it gets back to the camera that looks at the player and there's someone standing behind you, that was a genius scare device. And even worse was when you unlock and open the one door and you go to see what's in the room, and as soon as you do, a flashy monster begins to chase and attack you (and he remains loose and invincible through-out the game, so even if you get away from it, you're sure to run into him, and mess your britches, again)! And in the shockroom, when a past vision appears of someone being shocked, and you watch it and you get shocked yourself! This level's mood and execution is very unique and deserves the rating it gets!!!

10/10
The SCARIEST level Massassi.net has to offer!

Possibly the greatest level for JK ever conceived. I was actually scared, unlike most current day games. That's quite a rarety for me, especially. I'm usually quite harsh when it comes to thrillers, and you hit the nail clearly on the head. I can't wait to try the level in multiplayer, especially with noobies of the level.

Brillant. Loved every bit of it. Although running around in the dark isn't my kind of thing.

A great JK level overall! I love the effort and atmosphere. The lighting, texturing and 3DOs usage was wonderful as well. Nice job to a 7 year old game!

Minor concerns would be movement around the level and lack of items.

Spiral, this is a true hit to the JK family. This level is very professional, the lighting, the textures, and my god, the 3dos! that wheel chair is fucking sweet. I was walking around first off with a field light and it went out after gazing at the arch. and I was like SHIT! then i was in pitch black and ... I WALKED DOWNSTAIRS... and yea the second i laid my eyes on that thing... i remembered it as the jackal in 13 ghosts. that is the most scary ghost in that movie other then the naked princess with cuts. N E ways I showed all my friends at christmas this with the lights off, and thus being partially drunk the illusions were X 2. I showed my cuzins and some other friends and relitaves. one of them was running away from the jackal as its screaming and they got caught on a wheel chair then they turn around to see how far it is, and its lunging at you. VERY NICE LEVEL. VOTE: -=10ten10ten10ten10=-

Undieable as in invincible, or undieable as in Weegee, who had just about infinite health but if you finally killed him you get dark side instantly in SP original :P (I haven't seen that one in cheat sites, am I the only one with enough time to plant 90 sequencers under him?)

Absolutely TERRIFYING.

And yes, that thing can be killed (try hopping on the bedframe against the wall next to his cell and using the lightsaber), but a new one will appear. But I've gotta say, that enemy was a perfect choice for this level.

This level is absolutly phenominal. I could of sworn I was playing half-life 2 with no physics. With work this good for JK you should seriously consider editing in the source engine.

I was playing it last night and became completely terrified, so I informed one of my friends that we should play it together. (so I could freak the crap outta him).

Only problem was that on his GeForce 4200 TI, (which is, oddly enough, the same card I'm running on and I had no problems) something happened where the screen was completely black (Except for his hud) when Hardware Acceleration was enabled. (A must for levels with 16-bit textures, otherwise you're playing in "dot" world). Any suggestions/ideas?

No Ideas at all. Try to play a different level first and see if it works, it may just be his computer. Thanks all for the comments, though it is kinda sad that the downloads are not into 4 digits yet, or even close... I guess JK isn't as popular as it once was..

I know what the second screenshot says.

If you can read this...

I will stop there.

I had to Photoshop it.
Spiral

The second screenshot isn't a puzzle to be figured out, it is simply a tool in order to get the intended brightness for this level... you are suppose to adjust your monitor brightness according to the second screenshot, if you have to photoshop it, I don't suggest downloading this level, it will be completely black.

Pretty freaky - great textures. Did "The Cradel" in Thief: Deadly Shadows inspire you to make this level? Heh.. kind of what it reminded me of.
Spiral

Actually, what insired me originally to make this level is my first Asylum level called "Reclusion".. The title for this one was originally going to be "Reclusion II : The Haven", but it seemed more like a stand alone level than a sequal. So when making it, I was going for a more realistic feel than what I got out of Reclusion... (Reclusion is basically themed by area... the top 2 floors of reclusion is like a futuristic asylum, while the middle floor is a "NOW DAYS" asylum, and the basement is more of a "Creepy 1920's" asylum. With Haven, I was going for a more of an overall feel of the creepy 1920s type asylum. When making this level, I used a lot of picture of real asylums for reference, yet the majority of it I modeled after "Eastern State" Which is actually a Prison in PA. The resimblence between this level and the PS2 game "The Suffereing", however is NOT just luck. After completing this level, I watched the DVD extras from the suffereing, and they ALSO used "Eastern State" as a reference. I thought this was really cool, and when watching the little documentary, I recognized MANY pictures they were showing as Cell blocks from Eastern State. To see some of these pictures you can run a search on any search engine, or goto the Prison's website at http://www.easternstate.org/tour/index.html
you will DEFINATELY see the resemblence. As for your question, I have never even heard of "Thief: Deadly Shadows".

This level is really well done. I was actually too scared to play it with fieldlight/saber off. Some issues I noticed:
- It's sometimes pretty annoying that a simple chair can hold a grown up jedi back...these light items should really be pushable
- Why can't the secret cell door be shut again?
- The pill bottles cannot be picked up
- Sprite animations are not properly being displayed...a bug that I noticed in many JK levels/modifications
Spiral
Posted: 2005-03-07 10:23 p.m.   Report Abuse
Well, I can answer 2 questions..

1. The cell door can't be closed again cause I didn't want the process to be reversed.. it wouldn't be as scary if you could just "undo" it... I want the player to be like.. whoops.. I messed up.

2. The pill bottles CAN be picked up.. they are health.. so you have to be somewhat damaged, other whise you will just walk right through them....

as for the sprites... Yeah, I noticed that too.. but I had no idea how it happened and where to begin to fix it... cause the sprites work fine for the first 20 something seconds.. it must be something to do with the AI.

The guy with the box on his head is relentless, but every beast has its way of being tamed. Just put force grip on him one good time, and he won't move. If you get too close, He'll attack, but he won't walk around until you do what I did. Lay 30 land mines in his cell, and fire a couple of rails in there to spark the fuel. I was expecting to find one well fried ghost, but all I saw was one ticked off mother.
P.S. I fought him in sp with invuln. on to see if I could beat him, but I can't. Every time I play in mp, he lays a yell-down war hell-ride on my behind. Truly a 10.

Ok, you're right about the pill bottles. Couldn't find anything to hurt myself and the thing always killed me on sight...
But you should have placed some "defunct" effect for the secret door after it has been opened, to take a bit away from the "yeah, great, the door can't be closed because the leveldesigner didn't want his 00ber-monster to be taken care of" feeling.
Also, the level seems pretty empty (pickup-wise) for it's size. I couldn't test it with other players, though.

I... Can't... Play... this... level! IT'S TOO SCAREY!

This is some level! Only debug mode and the invincabilty cheat ever gives me enough confidence to even take 5 steps.

Not even KWP with it's instant kill sniper-rife can kill that ghost in 1 hit. In fact, on PWP2's sniper rife's headshot function, and IWP2's disrutper can kill it in 1 hit!

Oh my Lord... Spiral. You've done it. You've managed to take a simple, Star Wars game... and twist it to your liking, creating one freaking disturbing beast of a level. So many words cannot explain the sheer magnitude of this level...
Every inch of the hallway is riddled with fear, and tension.. and the unknowing suspense of not knowing what will happen next... especially.. if you have release what I call.. The Beast.
I won't ruin that aspect of the level for you by going into details... although some other level commenters maybe have already... but you have to experiance it yourself to understand to the true terror taht it can bring you. If you want to know the terror, suspense, the grittiness.. and the overall fantastic quality of this map.. just go ahead.. and FRIGGIN DOWNLOAD IT. You will not be disappointed, for I have deemed it the Best Jedi Knight Map in the history of Jedi Knight maps!

I managed to kill the monster with some friends, but he came back right after, we came back with some of my friends cogs to kill him (not that i hack, it was just to kill the monster, other than that i hate it).

We ended up killing him and we had another 2, we killed them and there where more, we played for like 6 hours straight and when we finished there were at least 12 new monsters runing on the floor under the lamps in the hallway with the cages at the end. We where hiding on the lamps :D

Heh its an amazing level Spiral, once again. I love the realism of this, contrasted with the fantasy feel of Reclusion. I would've loved the elements in this injected into Reclusion, but I'd also love a Porsche.

I love it when people mention that they've used hacks, its like they're caught with their pants down and they're trying to back out of it very clumsily.

We load up TS to chat while playing.. I was freaking out like crazy hahah. Its not easy to do that in a video game to people, especially a 10 year old one.
