Can Yun-o Ace Is: This level, although not quite as visually appealing as some of the other entries, has great connectivity, and beautifully flowing gameplay. Great Job Det!
Dark Tempest: Most levels that are 100% 3do fail gameplay wise, but this one seems to work, for some reason. Maybe it's the low gravity, or maybe it's just the expert placement of all the platforms and bounce pads. The stormy sound effects and scrolling clouds really make this level shine.
Cargo Ship: This level has outstanding architecture... I'm not a fan of LEC textures, but JM has put them to good use here. Loads of beams, catwalks, ramps, pipes, and indentions really make this level a beauty to look at. Not only is it nice to look at, but it's got great flow to it as well.
Neurotic: Words cannot describe this level... This is clearly the best level in the pack. I've never seen a level with such a unique atmosphere in ANY game. Every time I spawn in this level, my jaw drops and I can't help but mutter "Holy Crap" as I stare in awe at the magnificent architecture which is further accented by a unique style of texturing. The lighting is absolutely marvelous. The sounds....the music... It all comes together to make the most atmospheric level around. The sheer amount of detail is enough to leave one staring in amazement. This level seriously ROCKS. Fantastic job, Halucid. Neurotic is the best level out of this pack, and all the previous packs. I've never seen anything like it, and doubt I'll ever see anything like it again.
Can Yun-O Ace Is?:
Well what can you say its quite Canyon Oasisish... Personaly I did not like this level. LEC textures need to be burned. ;) Also the flow of this level is set too much for campers. Item placement was nice I never found myself without a gun but the areas are just too... well... not made for a CR. The level name however is quite original in an odd sort of way. Lighting in the darker areas however is ahh... well its lit so I gave the author that.

Dark Tempest:
Well here is a nice small level. (yea right) This thing is not small at all the skybox make this level quite big. As for the level it self the flow is set for fast gameplay so long as you dont fall off. The lighting storm that is flashing all around you is quite a nice effect as well as the thunder sounds. Matting is done nicely I dont think I saw anything wrong. Over all this is a level that I know I'll be playing over a lan.

MaDa has done it again another level and another time he left me out of the credits...
Anyway on to the level. The converson from 16 bit to 8 bit auctilly dose this level justice! Both are quite fun to play. This level is most deffently made for more than 2 players other wise you are going to be looking for each other for some time. I dont think I have seen too much JK in this level reminds me more of a Quake2 type level. This level with the IWP packs is quite fun I might add. The flow of this level might throw you at first so play it once without anyone else then get online and frag some friends.
Level: 7

Leaky Bucket:
Ahh... What on earth is this? Let me see oh a ship. I guess if you look really hard you can get past the fact that it must be a big boxish ship and pretend your in space. This level has a few things that just helped make it one that I will play once or twice but then it will get old. Mats were ahhh... they were aligned! Beside that they were LEC textures that have been over used but hey its the thoght that counts. A few traps in this level might have made it a bit more fun such as "SPACE"ing your enemy into the void. :) Also IMO big airduct = campers heaven.

Download this pack as you read this if you don't I come hurt you... If you never play this level you are never a true JEDI.
This level has everything JK never had. Flow is so sweet even if the level is a tad bit big. The mats... well you download it and tell me if you dont short out your keyboard with drool. Music in JK levels is saddly something that is rarely done cause of the file size of the stupid .wav format. Well this level wounld not be what it is without this music and you dont get sick of it either ;) BTW I love that teleport cog!!!

Xyloid Backbone:
WHAT!?!?!?? MaDa has TWO levels in this pack? ;) J/K I knew that once again MaDa comes out and destorys all us little editors with a nice level. The name make me think MaDa was on something (BTW MaDa I want some) Also the level is something... well... I can't put my finger on it but somehow it seems familiar. The mats are 100% non LEC untill you see the healing bot. (Bad MaDa) The flow of this level make you run into your enemy all the time so dont be caught without some firepower. This level is one I know LAN parties will talk about for ahh... 15 mins or so... J/K ;)
Level: 7
Mats: 9.5 (Blame the JK droid MaDa)

Lots of differing lvls, thats what makes the Massassi Level Packs so good!
Great Job, keep it up! =D
I gave this a 9, I thought it was fun.

By far the best levels are neurotic and dark tempest. The teles and bouncpads added a factor for outwitting your enemies (hint: go through them and turn around and wait for them to come through... BLAM!) but can YUN-o ace is is a great level with enough potential to supply only two people for at least a couple of hours. And to the maker of leaky bucket... get a life. This one is going nowhere.
BTW: They're levels not Art...
All great levels... specially mine(hehe) :p
I gave it an 8 overall
How does insulting my life exspress an opinion of my map? This is meant for comments about the pack, not my life. I have seen predominatly negative reviews of The Leaky Bucket, and all of them negative for the wrong reasons - Clearly, people, there must be something more to a map beyond 'new 1337 mats'. Surely, many of these winners have used custom textures. But strip them of their texturing, and they are still fantastic levels. The judging very carefully tipped the balance towards gameplay, and for that I commend them. Very few new editors understand the careful balance of architexture and gameplay, and will completly disregard gameplay for whichever level is prettiest - Run Leaky Bucket in debug. You will find the poly counts much much higher then the framerate would suggest. The pattern will hold true with all the maps in the pack (Except decimation. Sorry, Mada. But it's overly detailed in a good turn-the-res-down-a-step way). The authors, and the judges, knew what they were doing. I won't accept any more unsupported bashing of any map in this pack. Clearly, they are the creme de crop. If you don't like a map, tell us why. Don't accuse the author of not having a life.
I understand you completely, too many people think new textures are the way to go. Tons of people can get new textures, but very few can take the JK textures and make it into something that's truely awesome to look at. Yet the majority somehow feels JK textures somehow make a level bad...
*shrugs*
Demon_Nightmare
BTW- I do think of level/map editing as a form of 3D art... in fact, the problem with most levels released these days is that the author forgets to be artistic and original. Yes, flow and gameplay are EXTREMELY important, but having an original, creative, artistic, and all around immersive gaming experience really ensures your map will be fragged upon for a very long time.
Now, I really don't understand why anyone could say they "really didn't like this pack"... Now, granted, I've only played (beta-tested) the 2 levels by MaDa (I'm having trouble with my Win2k), but his maps alone make this pack truely enjoyable... Any pack with these 2 beautiful levels diserve the highest acclaim. Heck, next to his, I really don't understand why anyone likes my level.
As for the use of JK textures? Well, I can understand why people are having so much hatred towards them... they are over-used and I can say in all honesty, I'm quite sick of them mice elf... HOWEVER, Det-IQ's and JM's maps are exeptions to me, and I'll tell you why...
Leaky Bucket: Most levels that use JK mats are poorly textured... this is not one of them... PLUS, they're are not many maps out there which use the Fuel Station texture set... why? I dunno.... prolly cuz there's not as big of a selection as the popular Nar Shadaa or Barons Hed sets... but bottom line, using JK mats doesn't automaticly designate your level as "crappy"... in fact, my all-time favorite level, "Deep" uses 100% Nar textures. I wish I was brave enough to use them.
Can Yun-O: Det-IQ was trying to create a DM with the same feel and gameplay as the great Canyon Oasis... so with that in mind, I'd be upset if he used anything but the original Canyon Oasis texture set... if he wanted his map to feel like a Quake map, he'd have use Quake-ish textures.
Okay, I'm done yapping for now...
First-Decimation and Xyloid backbone were incredible. Gameplay is great, lighting, texturing and architecture make me want to spend weeks creating new levels that can match that kind of atmosphere. Only teensy little thing is that they were too dark in places for my liking. But that's what batteries and IR goggles are for. I rate them both 9. Great job -MaDaVentor- your skills as an editor make me green with envy.
Second-Dark Tempest. I was disappointed by this level because it is way too small. I get tired of always dodging bullets in fights, prefering to hunt the prey or suprise each other once in a while. But I can appreciate why it was included in the pack. The stormy atmosphere is awesome. Gameplay is very smooth. I rate it an 8.
Third-Cargo Ship. This level was well done. The game play is too cramped, it was a little boxy in places. I rate it a 7. What's wrong with using LEC textures? They are overused but they come with the game...not everyone has time to make their own textures, Jed eats up enough of my life already. And does extracting a mat from someone elses level make it anymore original? Let's be a little easier on the LEC textures...
Fourth-Can Yun-o ace is? Hmmm...didn't like this one. I found the architecture very boxy and the gameplay disappointing. The matting was quite loud as well. I rate it a 6.
Fifth-Neurotic. I saved the best for last. This level is the most incredible thing that I have ever seen. The entire level pack is worth this level. The matting...breath-taking, the gameplay wonderful. A little big maybe but the more players the merrier. The architecture was mouth watering. I wash that my writing could do this level the justice that it deserves. It is everything that my skills as an editor aspire too. It transcends simple level design and can only be called a work of art. Thank you. *wiping away tears* sniff...many long hours will be spent slicing my clan members to pieces on this level. I rate it a 10+. If I were to rate the other levels based on this one they would get a much lower rating, except for -MaDaVentor-'s.
Dark Tempest: Very Q3-ish. Good gameplay, but I didn't like it much.
Xyloid Backbone: As much as I normally tell you how much I love Madaventor's levels, I hate to say it, but this one just wasn't my kind of level either. Maybe it was the textures, but I just didn't like it much.
Can Yun-O Ace Is?: Well I thought "Canyon Oasis? Oh no.". But then I played it. I had lots of fun. Good level, good gameplay.
Neurotic: Even though the colours eventually got to me, I couldn't help but enjoy drooling at the amazing textures in the level. The music (?) in the background kept popping up out of nowhere and I'd be like "What happened?" then I'd remember it wasn't SP.
Leaky Bucket: Its been a while since I've seen a cargoship level, and this one takes the cake. Lots of ambient noises. Looks, feels, sounds like an old cargo ship. Great atmosphere.
PS Does anyone know how to make a part of a saber transparent when you make a saber pack? Namely the top, I keep getting this black box around it...
thats about all i have to say about that
Neurotic: AWESOME!!! This is probably the best map I have ever seen. There are no problems here at all, except a little lag (if you have a 56k or lower, don't host here).
Cargo Ship: A great deal like the MotS cargo ship level, and though I like the MotS version better, THIS ROCKS!! Sure brings back memories... of getting owned endlessly by some of the MotS people. =)
Those aren't the only good levels in the pack, and the others are great as well, but I just wanna say one thing about Can Yun-o Ace Is?... It reminds me too much of Canyon Oasis, and really, its just a big one with a strange name. I did like the name tho, very creative. Well, thats all, and be sure to download this thing! Small file too...
Thank you for liking that teleport COG, I made it. =P
Decimation:
It'll seem kinda bad a first, since the lighting is quite dim, so turn your gamma up 2-3 notches. But when you play this with others, it's quite fun.
Rating: 7/10
Dark Tempest:
Whoa..I love this level! It's very much like the floating platform Quake 3 Arena levels. Framerate here is incredible. I get a constant FPS of at least 100 on my Voodoo 3.
Rating: 9/10
Xyloid Backbone:
One of the best in the pack. Has quite a Tomb Raider-esque look to it. Snow piled up along the walls..creaky elevators. Flow is excellent here.
Rating: 9/10
Can yun-o-ace-is?:
I loved this level...and I don't understand why people bash it because it uses LEC MATs. It looks great, nice and curvy. Gamplay is kind of set for campers, but that's part of the fun. If you have enough people, say 6-8, that's not a problem at all.
Rating: 8/10
Neurotic:
By far the best level in the whole pack. Creepy as all hell! The music is great, and while some people didn't like seeing those "hate" signs everywhere (wimps) it's still awesome. Looks very Quakeish, lighting rules, so does the geometry. Flow here is really intense with a lot of people.
Rating: 10/10
Leaky Bucket:
Eh, this level's not the greatest, but I liked it. Traps, such as a space vacuum trap would have really made it better. I honestly can't say much for the flow, since there were only a few people playing it. As most every level, more people = more fun.
Rating: 6/10
Overall: 10/10 - It doesn't exactly average that, but I thought it was the best MLP yet, so I give it a 10!
Recently i've discovered that the following levels are great for teamplay:
Neurotic, Dark Tempest and Leaky Bucket.
All the levels have gameplay flaws in some areas, so if you are playing NF or FF you will end up skipping some levels. But overall the more people the better (8 is about right)
...thanks again, bro.
Hmm.. just found two "bugs" one is the neurotic level... if you go through the portal wait a little while for the doors to close and then go back you'll hide between the door and the portal and basically can't really be found or hurt if someone tries to shoot you... also one "bug" in decimation where you can get stuck behind the elevator.. (even though i told MaDa about this during beta testing... guess he forgot to fix it.
... now if ya wanna see a real bug, try walking backwards thru the portal.... very trippy... I kinda like it.
When LEC first made the game, they used the engine for a specific purpose: Kyle Katarn becoming a Jedi Knight and avenging his father's death and saving the universe from a Dark Jedi in an ancient Jedi battle sight planet, Russaan. They had no idea how limitless their engine was...
We've seen flips, glowing lightsabers with trails, machine guns, excellent replicas of memorable characters, and atmospheric levels like SS3, Terror on Sigma 51-A, and Anthony Piggots astounding BoaM trilogy. Now, we have the greatest multiplayer levels ever released in a single pack; Massassi Level Pack 4. I thought three was the end of it, but I guess Brian decided to make a fourth. This is excellent, from the playability of Leaky Bucket to the atmospheric tmple level by Detricit-IQ. I also loved the amazing Dark Tempest level. It was a bit unoriginal, with its look-like-y-ness of Q3, but the skies and lighting more than make up for it. My only complaint:
Nobody plays it on the Zone.
But it's not your fault; I guess it's just considered enjoyable by the fools who waste their time repeatedly doing terrible kickass crap like KWP at JHS. They don't put the time and harddrive space into masterpieces like this. I gave this a perfect ten.
Oh yah, and Brian, I'm glad you finally got Level of the Week working again, and next time you threaten to shut down the site I will tie a hang and guiiltoine myself while I commit Sepuku in the bloodiest, most gruesome way imaginalbe. LONG LIVE MASSASSI!!!!!!!!!
Yer right about one thing tho... nobody plays this on the zone... it was the same with MLP3, if I recall... On the Zone, everyone would just rather play maps that I HATE, like JHS, Jawa Dwelling, Duel of the Fates SE, Bar and Grill, Merc and JI Oasis... I dunno why anyone would play those enormous, fully-lit, lack-luster levels at all... but I'm pretty certain it has a lot to do with the same reason people listen to crap-songs by Britney Spears and N-Sync.... not because they are GOOD, but because they are POPULAR.
MLP4 could be popular on the Zone, but someone has to take the initiative to host a match there more than a few times... you'll see.
But lemme ask you a question... If almost 1000 people have downloaded this pack in 2 days, doesn't that say something? Maybe everyone here realizes a better way to play JK, rather than using the Internet Lagging Zone? Perhaps you should get on ICQ or AIM sometime, and start up an IP game.
...and I was also impressed with the two levels using all LEC textures. JM clearly placed the textures carefully in The Leaky Bucket. Theres a scheme to the entire ship that is consistent. So even though Im use to seeing these textures the level was nice because Ive never seen them used in that way. The Oasis level used the textures well...(although I have always hated that checkered cab texture and that rock cliff texture, yuck) The layout of water in the center of a level creates some crazy force run and jump mid-air battles.
One thing I felt there was a little too much of was those spiral staircases. The zigzaggy spiral stairs in Neurotic are hella hecka cool lookin. But they made me stutter-step going up them.
Best MLP yet.
I knew the .025 rule, but I needed the steps to be steeper, so I thought if I made each step just .005 higher, it wouldn't have made a difference... but it did... and by then, it was too late to fix.... shucks.
The Prog
And I was worried that everyone would find my 'secret room' on Neurotic too easily, but it appears my teleporters are well-hidden, too. Guess I don't have to worry about that...
[|]Bastard Son of Maul[|]
for the record, i did drool on my keyboard when playing neurotic.
MaDa.. keep up the awesome work! You're an inspiration to us all, now going through what you do. I pray that you'll continue doing what you love, and you know what? I'm willing to bet someday that I'll run into your work (professionally) in the future and it won't be surprising at all! You had potential from day one.
I still remember you beta testing Oy'glah'th (yes, Oy'glah'th) and repeatedly saying 'I hate you!' I was like, "What?", and you claimed you could never get as good as me. Even then, I thought you were nuts. I thought you had already surpassed me even then. What have I ever done? Oy'glah'th was simply an eight hour spurt of serious inspiration (for me at least). I've never been able to reproduce anything like it since.
I've throughly enjoyed watching all of you editors progress throughout your careers. Yes, even the famed JM. ;) JM, I'm sorry to say this, and I know it hurts to hear it, but you really have come a long way since 'Hydro-Planetary Cannon Thingamajig'. How the heck did that ever make it into MLP1, anyway?! Hehe.
To all other authors of MLP4, great work on all the levels! You are all truly excellent editors! It just makes me sad to know that it never was too widely played. (Although considering the date it was released, it's still pretty high on the download list - still on the first page! Woo!)
Although I noticed MLP3 is quite a bit higher in the running, rofl. Just kidding ;)
Peace out, and if anyone ever reads this, let's reminisce about old times. Anyone who still looks here is either hardcore JK forever, or an author in MLP4. :p
Round was new and interesting then, and more then made up for the map being just one texture. It also had water, and some switch... that did... something. I think. It might not have actually worked, but it definitly changed when you activated it!
Great level pack!
Score of: 9
And yes, Mada is missed. :(
I thought the day would never come! My years of voting have finally paid off!! I wonder who the other guy that voted for it was... or was I just the only guy to have placed a vote this week... all well... ;)
