For the benefit of Mr. Katarn... - Echoman @ 10:36 PM
If you are plagued with issues related to running 3D Acceleration when using modern hardware for Jedi Knight, try the new fix released recently by community members Emon and, the JKHub overseer, ZeqMacaw. Employing this fix is fairly easy as the only real task you have to perform is dropping a new .dll file in your main Jedi Knight directory. To read information on how this fix works, post feedback and/or give thanks, head on over to this thread or visit the project's home on JKHub. Click ddraw_(hack_viewport3_clear2) on that page.

Those of you who bought the digitally distributed Steam-version of the game need not worry; the fix was made most certainly for you as well.

Jedi Knight collection hits Steam - Echoman @ 6:30 PM
Continuing with their recent partnership with Valve to digitally distribute old, popular titles in the company’s history, LucasArts made available for purchase the complete Jedi Knight series via Valve Corporation’s online game distribution service Steam. To clarify, this includes all of the games in this collection: Dark Forces, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Each game can be individually purchased, or customers can opt to buy the Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection which includes all games in one package at a discounted price. For those who wished to play Jedi Knight as it was made back in 1997, this is a good opportunity as the game remains virtually intact down to the last detail, however, this comes at a very significant cost; the Steam version of Jedi Knight withholds all the compatibility problems as the original retail counterparts. It is also worth noting that the original ingame music is not available.

For questions and colorful comments on this event, you can check out this thread.

JKLauncher - Echoman @ 12:37 PM
For those who always wished for a possible method of playing Jedi Knight online with others in this day and age but could find no means, check out JKLauncher on JKHub. Project leader and Hub admin, ZeqMacaw, recently updated JKLauncher (on August 9th), and now the most recent version is graced with more features to enhance game-finding capabilities and better manage mods and game content. When installing, remember to download Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 and read up, on its JKHub page, all about JKLauncher, it's development history and what is planned for its future.
No End in Sight - Echoman @ 12:23 PM
The Never-Ending Story survived to see it's 10th year on August 14th. For those who are unfamiliar with it, the NeS is a writing-focused community project seeded in the Interactive Story Board (ISB) that has, throughout the years, grown to monstrous proportions. Being a decade old, this collaborative effort has become the longest run forum-related project on this site and definitely the most ominous thing residing on Massassi. If interested, visit the board to find more info on NeS future endeavors with the ISB crew.

LucasArts and Steam - Echoman @ 11:09 AM
In an effort to bring a new generation of gamers to old titles while inciting the nostalgic-proned to, yet again, relive the past, LucasArts has partnered (PDF) with Valve Coporation to bring "classic games" via Valve's digital distribution service Steam. Through press releases, LucasArts stated that they intend to observe public reaction to the re-releases of certain games and make available more of their back catalog with regards to fan support. Perhaps more games from the Dark Forces and Jedi Knight era will be up for grabs around the corner, hopefully sorting out software and hardware compatibility issues as well.

New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: Andossk: Fight For Freedom - Level 1 - Cool Matty @ 8:50 AM
File: Andossk: Fight For Freedom - Level 1
Author: Kharm9
Description: The outer rim world of Andossk has been under Imperial control since soon after the Battle of Yavin. When the Imperials discovered the extraordinary engineering capabilities of the native Dremmork race, they seized control and have kept them working as slaves on their home planet for the development of new weaponry and technology. Despite the rigorous brainwashing involved in the training of Imperial troops, a small band of Imperials have begun to see the injustice that they are perpetrating. Guided by a common fledgeling ability with the Force they have been covertly liasing with the Dremmork and planning to free Andossk from the Empire's clutches. Discarding their uniforms and unleashing their newly constructed lightsabers, the group set their plans in motion ... This level was mostly created in 2000/2001 - the finishing touches have now (finally!) been added. An additional 2 levels that were originally planned have been abandoned by the author. Best enjoyed with buddies in coop play!

A decade and one year... - Echoman @ 9:44 PM
...and hopefully still going on for years to come. March 27 marks the day Massassi turns 11 years old, and your favorite green dinosaur of a website somehow refused to be put down after all this time. So on this day, be festive and merry as we celebrate with our fond relic from the 90's and its diehard denizens. If you are passing through and was once part of the community, don't be afraid to peek your head in to see if the old green-and-black heart is still beating. Cheers.

Another Massassian Passes... - Cool Matty @ 8:50 AM
This morning the Massassi community read a shocking post by "Archerzz". It seems Vegiemaster (Nate), a longstanding member of the community, has passed away Monday morning, in his sleep. Archerzz was a good friend of his through high school, and returned to let us know the news.

If you wish to offer your condolences to Vegiemaster's friends and family, feel free to post here. Vegiemaster is the third person Massassi has lost; some may still remember MadaVentor, an old and skilled editor who died of a brain tumor. And during the old Massassi days, Lar Van Der Gant was a talented artist who was responsible for much of Massassi's old artwork. He was lost at a young age to a tragic car accident. Please keep them in your thoughts.

KOTOR 3 Confirmed - DSettahr @ 1:15 PM
It's not a rumor any more. The third installment to the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic line of games has been confirmed. As many have anticipated it will be an MMO and will come out of the workshop of BioWare, the same company that made the first KOTOR installment, and games such as Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect. You can read more about the new game here.

Massassi Holiday Logo Contest - Echoman @ 10:44 AM
As with every holiday season from before, Massassi observes the annual tradition of the Holiday Logo event. As many of you already know, it's a time, once a year, for users to submit a holiday themed rendition of a banner for display in place of Massassi's usual logo. Same with last December, each submitted logo is paired with a donation of $1 to charity by Cool Matty. For more information on this, recent developments and the new proposed "banner contest," check out the official holiday logo thread on the forums.

You can check this year's accepted logo submissions on this page and the ones from events gone by.

New Jedi Knight Single Player Level: The New Threat 3 - Cool Matty @ 1:37 PM
File: The New Threat 3
Author: Edward
Description: The New Threat was originally started by Nigel McLoughlin but continued by Edward because the files for part 3 got lost and Nigel lost interest. He had planned this to be a possible 6-8 part-er, but I wrapped it up into one final part. This level contains quite a few new things, among which a new droid type and some new movements. Those of you who play and comment, please avoid spoiling the plot.

Spare some leftover goodwill? - Echoman @ 2:00 AM
As shown by the last two years, Massassians are generous and selfless creatures. The beginning of November marks the start of another community-driven effort in supporting Child's Play, so if you are interested in donating some funds or help in some way to push the event into the season of giving, check on this thread. While it may be too early to put up the holiday lights, it's never a wrong time to consider in aiding a cause. For information on Child's Play, make your way to the charity's website here, and if you wish to discuss other causes, throw a word unto the forums.
Lost -ian Seen Posting on Forums - Echoman @ 1:46 AM

Star Wars Retrospective - Echoman @ 1:29 PM
Gametrailers, a game media focused website, has been running a series of videos, titled "Star Wars Retrospective", about the long history of Star Wars related games. Through segments, the videos shed light on various classics and controversies in the genre.

As expected for a recent episode, the people behind the show touched upon the Jedi Knight series. The days of Kyle Katarn featured include Dark Forces and, of course, Dark Force II: Jedi Knight, and Kyle's role in spin-off books and collectibles are mentioned as well. You can check out these videos for a helping of nostalgia at Gametrailer's website here.

The other 7 have special characteristics that make them unique. More detailed explanations of the sabers are in "saber descriptions.txt", included with the .pk3 files.
