Ping_Me's review of Cate Mod:

Another dime-a-dozen "real life guns" mod.
Although based on another game, I think that this game must have other guns in it if it made "Game of the Year". There are only three new guns in this mod, which seriously detracts from it's overall feel. I find it unrealistic to switch from a physical projectile weapon straight to a laser weapon like the repeater or something. As well, while the gun models themselves are decent, thier texturing is horrible. All textures are recycled from the Res2.gob.

The author even neglected to texture all of one of his guns, the carbine. A third of the gun has the dflt.mat covering it.

If you let the game sit and the idle camera engages you'll notice that none of the new gun models acutally sit on the arm, the gun and hand sit eerily just above the arm.

The 9mm pistol is the size of a rifle.

The carbine needs to use more "ammo" to compensate for it's power.

All of the new guns have sounds that don't quite fit them. The 9mm sounds like somebody stepped in some mud (*squish*), the revolver sounds like a shotgun and the carbine's sound was ripped from a grappling hook in another mod (can't remember which right now). I'm hesitant to say "ripped" because I'm not sure of the rights to that sound.

It was strange walking around picking up energy and power cells when the guns I'm using shoot bullets...

I didn't examine this mod's MP capability, however, I took one look at the replacement skin for Kyle and retched. The author uses a female model and covers it with a "body suit" (I can only assmue that's what it is) of a really disgusting, tiled 3do texture, specifically, the one that is placed on the top end of the power boost item.

The only good thing I can say about this mod is that it was pulled off in a typical "real life guns" manner. Reloadable weapons, fast bullets and shell casings flying everywhere. I was pleased that the author didn't make the carbine into some rapid fire death weapon.

Overall, if the game the author based the mod on was really "Game of the Year" and he really loved it that much, I think he could have done it more justice than this.

im a really big fan of real life guns, but no one seems to pull them off quite right. the only realy life guns mod ive even seen work for real and be a sucess is Arsenal series, ss3, and Death from above; viagra edition. keep trying, the main thing you must remember is research the guns, most people trying to make a gun mod never research them. find a book in your local library about arms and look under "Uzi" i thought an uzi was the thingy from ss3 until i saw it for real.

I play NOLF all the time and I can tell you right now that dosn't look a thing like Cate Archer or effort in this mod. I'm not wasting my time.
