Mirrored Oasis

Posted: 2000-11-21 4:40 a.m.   Report Abuse Canyon Oasis is indeed a great level. I have made my share of Oasis mods, and alot of people have/will in the past/future.

Oasis mods won't score high and the mainstream editors will whine about how many times someone has created an Oasis mod, but 999 variations of every good map out there in any game are to be expected.

I can't say good job, because it probably wasn't all that difficult to do, but it's definitely better than that Invterted Oasis level. ;)

Posted: 2000-11-21 3:33 p.m.   Report Abuse Ok, Blue Jay. You are a talented and skilled editor. But this was kinda of a dissapointment. It was Oasis, with stuff moved around! Nothing new. The novelty wears of fast. Everyone's right, we're all sick of Oasis MOD's. The only *decent* one I've seen is Canyon Oasis 2! Anyway, pretty unoriginal dude. Plus, you know how sometimes, in the original Oasis, you respawn over that big pool of water? Well, in Mirrored Oasis, you respawn in the same place, but... NO WATER! You go splat. Overall, no offense, I give it a 4, and that's only cause Oasis ruled in the first place!

I don't know quite what to say. I think Oasis is a good level, good flow, good balance, blah blah blah, etc.

I had the sudden idea to make a mirrored version. So I did. I flipped the sectors and moved the things to where they should be. I missed a walkplayer. So sorry. I did it by hand, not with Mirror Madness (although I would have used it if I had thought of it), so I didn't do it perfectly.

It took all of an hour to do it. Yes, I'm capable of more. Thank you for your comments about me being a skilled editor, here and on the level comments.

I don't have the time or really the desire to finish a whole level from scratch, at least not the kind of level I want to make. It takes a long time, and eventually I get bored. The JK things I've finished are short things that take 3-5 hours at most, like the 3dos.

I made it (or didn't make it, depending on your opinion), because I thought it would be fun. I uploaded it to Massassi so people could download it, play it, and have fun with it.

It doesn't mean I'm a bad person, or that I have no editing skills, or that my reputation should take a hit because I put it out.

I didn't do it to make a statement, or to prove my editing skills. There is nothing wrong with Oasis mods. Sure, some are just things that take an hour, like mine. So if you like them, use them. If not, don't. I don't care whether you play my mod or not, or whether you like it or not.

But stop saying that there's something wrong with doing it, because there's not.

Maybe someday I will finish an original level or mod. Maybe I won't. But this Oasis mod will have nothing to do with it. I just did it because I thought it would be neat and fun. I did it because I wanted to play it myself, and I put it up so others could too.

Well...I hope this ends the complaining.

Posted: 2000-11-23 7:28 a.m.   Report Abuse Well ,I myself see nothing wrong with releasing ANY mods of any kind.I mean ,after all this is a public submitting website.If someone wants to release a canyon oasis mod and have bozo the clown running around as an enemy then so be it.The problem at hand here is that certain people overly express their "opinions" and just flat out take pot shots at levels that have been submitted by an individual.Example"do not download" "this level sucks" It is obviously your first level" e.t.c
A lot of the commenters post these strings as if it has personally affected their live's in some way.The positive comments are outweighed by the negative in a landslide of a margin.Those of you who fit either of these desciptions know who you are.
Now as far as this level in particular goes.It is a simple conversion of an existing level.Maybe the author had a certain goal or vision they had in mind.So they share it with the rest of the public.I actually downloaded it and the only problem I saw in it was the re-spawn over no water.
But I mean ,my god it is very simple you dont like the level you express it.No one should be in the buisness of saying things "suck" and this and that.
It is flat out childish behavior and if you try to get around like that out in the real world you will make it ,nowhere.

So the internet honor system of "honesty" is not being followed accordingly when this stuff happens.Bluejay-good level ,keep up the good work and release whatever you want to release.

I played it for 15 min with a friend and I kept turning left instead of right and falling off. And BTW who cares if it is an Oasis Mod, Atleast he didn't add 500 concs and a ton of ammo, I think Oasis mods like this are creative.
