Narra:A Slave's Tale- Part 1
Author: [Deathstar4] Reviewer: [SL_Ric_Olie]
Aesthetics:
This level is not well done. You could tell from the architecture and texturing that the author didn’t put in as much time as he should have. From the opening cutscene, you could see the level was boxy because the thing that showed was a box. The level was basically boxes connected to other boxes by more boxes of varying size. Texturing is visible in the screenshots. It was repetitive, the same texture for all sides of a room, and the textures chosen did not tile well, they looked out of place. Some basic colormap errors were also visible. Lighting was little better: most areas were fully lit, though there were a few darker areas. Dynamics included missile boat and TIE fighter 3dos, tinted sectors, and a scantily-clad Narra skin that had to be run as a patch.
Gameplay:
Because the level was mostly boxes, it was quite boring running through the entire level. Weapons were limited to what you picked off enemies, and there were a lot of enemies to pick them off from. Which goes to the next point: enemy placement was bad with tons of enemies in a single sector. Other items were placed sparingly, which was ok, except that you needed a lot more shield boosts, which happened to have their own repulsor lifts. Also, the author forgot to replace the cog messages “entered secctor” (spelled like that in-game) and “COGxxxx” (where xxxx is the number) with actual messages. Other errors included HOM effects and if you killed Davin Felth, you could still finish the level.
Final Comments:
Unless running around as a nearly-nude slave floats your boat, don’t play this level. In other words, “I’d rather kiss a wookie!”
