Canyon Desert
Author: [Lightside] Reviewer: [Moonraker]
- Aesthetics:
- I was expecting something much different when I first played this level. The name is deceiving as it implies a desert being within a canyon. When in fact this level is a canyon. It felt very much like Canyon Oasis and in fact holds this classic level. Unfortunately, much like Canyon Oasis, this level has the boring "canyon" mats. There really isn't much variety in the level. I feel that allot more could have been done with the texturing, there are a few good custom canyon mats out there that could have been used. Although I've criticized the texturing, I do not feel it is bad but a tad too boring. The architecture to wasn't anything extravagant. The level consists of platforms and cylinders and some pools of water. I'm guessing this level wasn't meant to be judged by its looks.
- Gameplay:
- Force and more importantly Force Jump and highly recommended in this level. Without force, you'll basically saber duel on a flat surface with walls. When you've got force though, this level plays a whole lot better. The only thing that really holds this level together is the secret Canyon Oasis area. Without it, the level doesn't have enough in it for some good fraggn'. Item placement is scarce which works perfectly for this level because of it's small size and large open area. The framerate is smooth as a baby’s bum, you won't have any problem with it here.
- Final Comments:
- This level isn't really bad, but it isn't really great. It falls in between and leaves mixed feelings after you play it. The levels main flaw is its lack of architecture. Sure it's got platforms and pillars but it really feels like it needs something more, maybe platforms. I'm sure Canyon Oasis lovers all alike will find some fun in this level but sadly I found no such enjoyment.
